I ask this because, so far, the only way I can make a backup of a DS game save is with the old Action Replay DS Media Edition (which includes an app named Datamax), and with its current firmware it can only backup/restore save data for Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, not HeartGold/SoulSilver/Black/White/Black2/White2.
Or, shall we say instead that the software bundled with the Powersaves 3DS works only with 3DS games? Because, after all, the device itself (the hardware) is a USB device, and if new software is written to allow it to recognize DS/DSi cartridges as well, then it should be possible to read from/write to such old games without having to purchase another (older) Action Replay device. According to the archived post in, the Action Replay Powersaves 3DS device only works with 3DS games, not with DS or DSi games.
